Au revoir Europe

image

With mixed feelings about leaving, and also a sense of what is round the next corner, I board the ferry from Calais to Dover, its raining and cold, winter.
I’ve had 7 months of wanderings in Europe.  I’m left with wonderful memories of the people I’m met, and the sights and places my travels have taken me.
Through The Netherlands, staying with Frans and Marga.  On to Germany and the Rhein, where I was picked up, and stayed with Mathias and Annette, an evening of great German hospitality and a kiwi home video, thank-you! Switzerland where I had a lovely evening with friends Jen and Al from NZ, amongst the mountains, to then ride on into the rain with friend Undy from the UK.  Meeting and riding with friends Sonja and Tony from home, in Austria.  Being with cousin Annabelle and husband Pete, with friends Sue and Simon near Nice, France. Berlin, the history, everything, its a cool city. The months of rock climbing in Greece and Turkey…the Turkish Hamam…the food, going to miss the Italian, German, French supermarkets/deli section, but I’m sure I can find some Ouzo at home!
UK bound, I hope it stops raining, they’ve had enough.

Attempted to ski, but it turns out the French don’t hire ski clothing.  It was pretty all the same.

Making tracks back to Blighty

I’m now enroute back to England for my flight from Heathrow.  Its a quick trip overland, but still trying to savour each country I pass through.

Venice was a treat, even in the rain and cold.

Geyikbayiri, Turkey

Ferry to Turkey, one over friendly Customs Officer, and across and down to the south of Turkey for more climbing.

Being winter the weather was both on and off.

Was here either side of Christmas and New Year, with a week in Istanbul over Christmas.  Istanbul didn’t cease to provide, with its amazing sights, hassling carpet sellers, and a riot.
